<p><strong>About <span class="il">RUFF</span> <span class="il">CUTS</span> </strong></p>
<p dir="ltr"><span class="il">RUFF</span> <span class="il">CUTS</span> is the main screening event at the School of Media Studies. It&#8217;s a prime opportunity to showcase and get feedback on your work-in-progress films, connecting with fellow filmmakers, colleagues, and professors. We screen around 8 films on a first-come, first-served basis.</p>

The slots at <span class="il">RUFF</span> <span class="il">CUTS</span> are on a first-come, first-served, so please submit as early as possible. If we are unable to fit you in for the upcoming <span class="il">RUFF</span> <span class="il">CUTS</span>, your submission will roll over to the top of the following <span class="il">RUFF</span> <span class="il">CUTS</span>!</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On opening night of the 10th Annual <a href="http://imaginesciencefilms.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Imagine Science Film Festival</a> in New York, 6 filmmakers and 6 scientists were randomly paired and sent off into the city to begin filmmaking. The only prompt offered to each pair was to focus their film on the theme: HYBRID-IDENTITY. Each film was created over the course of October 13-20. School of Media Studies’ Macha Rose was one of the filmmakers chosen for the festival. Rose, masters degree candidate at The New School for Media Studies, was paired with Joel Simon, a Rockefeller University professor involved in bioinformatics. Together they created and debuted their short film “Figuration”. Also involved in the film’s production are New School’s Rose Ozkan (director of photography), David Clarke (editor) and New School alum Rick Hamilton (sound recordist).<br />

<h3>About the film:</h3>
<p>The sensation of living in New York, away from home, is shared by those who come to live in this great metropolis from elsewhere. In Nine Letters, this experience of ‘here and there’ is conveyed by letters, and by images of everyday urban life, evoking the dream state of the present imbued by the past.<br />

<h3>About the director:</h3>
<p>Cristina is a Brazilian-Swiss filmmaker who works as a director and editor, mostly in documentaries and music videos. Her latest projects include Nine Letters, short documentary made during the Doc Studies Program at The New School, The Snow, made at the Kinomada Film Laboratory in Saguenay (Canada), Orchestra Soul, made for Futura TV Channel (Brazil), and pre-editing for the feature documentary Favela Olímpica directed by Swiss filmmaker Samuel Chalard (Switzerland).</p>
