]]> Adjunct Professor of Media Studies, Jem Cohen‘s feature film was selected as the centerpiece in Currents’ section of the New York Film Festival.

The world premiere of Little, Big, and Far, a tale of catastrophes through the travels of an astronomer in search of a sky dark enough to study the stars, is slated for screening from 5th October to 8th October 2024. The film screenings will be held in the Walter Reade Theater, EBM Film Center(HGT), BAM, and Bronx Museum.

He’s been Adjunct Professor at The New School since 2008 and was chosen to be the inaugural President of the Cannes Lions (Festival of Creativity) Music Jury in 2016 , where he was called “a musical genius.”
He’s presented Keynotes at Cannes Lions, Spot (Denmark), ADE (Amsterdam), SXSW, XpoNorth, (Inverness, Scotland), The Whext Festival (Sao Paulo), Music Matters (Singapore), Tokyo Music Market, El Dorado (Bogota, Colombia), Billboard Film and TV (Los Angeles) and The Sync Summit (New York City).

]]> Neyda Martinez, Associate Professor in the School of Media Studies, Director of the Media Management Graduate Program, and Co-Director of the Impact Entrepreneurship Initiative at The New School was elected to the Board of New York Women in Film and Television.

The preeminent professional association for women in the New York entertainment industry, NYWIFT energizes women by illuminating their achievements, presenting training and professional development programs, awarding scholarships and grants, and providing access to a supportive community of peers. NYWIFT is part of a network of more than 60 women in film organizations worldwide, representing more than 15,000 members. NYWIFT produces over 50 innovative programs and special events annually, including the Muse Awards for Vision and Achievement, which honors women in front of and behind the camera, and Designing Women, which recognizes costume designers, makeup artists and hair stylists in the industry.

]]> The Sundance Institute announced the four filmmakers and six grantees who comprise the 2018 Art of Nonfiction program. Launched in 2018, Art of Nonfiction is the Institutes’s program “working at the vanguard of inventive artistic practice in story, craft and form.”

Jem Cohen. Filmmaker/photographer/multi-media artist ​Jem Cohen​​’s feature-length films include ​Museum Hours, Counting, Chain, Benjamin Smoke, Instrument,​ and ​World Without End (No Reported Incidents).​ Shorts include ​Lost Book Found, Little Flags, and Anne Truitt – Working​. His films are often documentary/fiction hybrids – navigating between city symphony, diary film, and essay, they pull things seen on the periphery into the center. Cohen’s work is in the collections of MoMA, the Whitney Museum, Jewish Museum, and D.C.’s Natl Gallery of Art, and has been broadcast by PBS, Arte, and the Sundance Channel. Retrospectives include Harvard Film Archive and London’s Whitechapel Gallery. Grants/Fellowships include Guggenheim, Alpert, Creative Capital, and awards include the Independent Spirit Award (IFP) and Persistence of Vision Award (SFFS).
